Andrews STEM Engineering Program provides students opportunities to explore Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics careers in grades 6-8. This three-year rigorous curriculum is designed to motivate and challenge students by building on previous knowledge and critical thinking skills. The rigorous curriculum is designed to motivate and challenge students by building their knowledge and critical thinking skills through cutting-edge, technology-infused instruction coupled with design-based learning to ultimately connect students to the world beyond school. Classes will be organized around typical engineering topics such as: Introduction to Engineering, Materials & Methods of Production, Structural Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electricity and Electronics, Chemical Engineering, Civil Engineering, and Industrial Engineering. Students must demonstrate high academic ability.
The vision for the Hampton Middle School STEM program is to educate the next generation of innovators necessary for Virginia businesses to remain competitive in global economy. The intentionally small learning environment and strong support network of peers, teachers, and community members will help every student achieve success.
If you would like your middle school student to participate in the Hampton Middle School STEM program, please submit the enclosed Out of Zone application to the Hunter B. Andrews School Counseling office. We will begin accepting out of zone applications for the next school year on March 1. A new application must be completed each school year and non-resident students must be in good standing at their current school. Parents/guardians will be informed of their child's application status by August 15.
For students currently residing in the Andrews zone interested in participating in the STEM program, schedule an appointment with the school counseling director, Mrs. Moore, to discuss enrolling into the program.
